  3. I was born in June. This month is kindof unique when it comes to birthstones because there are three different birthstones for this month. The birthstones are pearls, alexandrite, or moonstone. I'm sure we all know that pearls are little white, shiny balls. They are unique because they are organic and found under the sea in clams. Alexandrite is unique because in the dayight, it appears greenish bluish while under artificial light, it is purple. This stone is very uncommon, therefore it is valuable. Lastly, moonstone is a blue colored stone. It is interesting because it is said to change with the moon.

manganese in quartz produces the purple color, and additional iron content varies the color of the purple.

It is pink and Prized for its unique ability to refract and reflect specific wavelengths of light, the Opal was called "Cupid Paederos" by the Romans, meaning a child beautiful as love. One legendary explanation for this gemstone's origin is that it fell from heaven in a flash of fiery lightning.

  7. My birthstone is peridot. It is for the month of August, and is a nice, green color. As early as 1500 BC, the Egyptians used peridot as a gem. Actually, it is now believed that Cleopatra's emeralds were really fine, dark green peridots. Peridot was mined in ancient Egypt on an island called Zeberget

  8. My birthstone is tourmaline. This stone is for the month of October and is: dark yellow, brown, green, bluish black, black, light blue, bluish green, pink, red, or colorless. Brightly colored Sri Lankan tourmalines were brought to Europe in great quantities by the Dutch East India Company to satisfy a demand for curiosities. At the time people called this gem schorl, as well as another tourmaline. It was then discovered that they are the same mineral.

  9. Since my birthday is January 19 my birthstone is garnet. It is a deep red color. This birthstone's name comes from the Latin word "granatus," meaning "grain" or "seed." This is because garnet resembles the seed of a pomegranate. Garnets have a Moh's hardness of 6.5 to 7.5.
